District 19 Update: Work continues on 2025 budget as deadline nears
As we approach the June 30 deadline for finalizing Pennsylvaniaâs budget, I remain focused on ensuring that every dollar we allocate reflects the values, needs, and priorities of our communities. Budget negotiations are intensifying, and I am committed to advocating for investments that uplift working families, strengthen public health, and build a more equitable economy.

Magisterial District 05-2-42 Update: Lawyer of the Day program paused
Since late 2022, the Lawyer of the Day program has operated in four local Magisterial District Courts (Homewood, Hill District and both Northside courts). The program sought to bring financial support to tenants facing eviction while also, as the name suggests, providing tenants with in-court legal representation on the day of their hearings (think âpublic defenderâ but for lower income tenants). This cooperative effort among RentHelpPGH, Neighborhood Legal Services, Ebony Law and Community Justice Project and other partner organizations such as Just Mediation Pittsburgh, has been connecting tenants with legal representatives and resource navigators to assist them in navigating their eviction and very importantly, accessing needed financial assistance to solve the cause of the eviction.

District 20 News: Make the most of summer with free, low-cost family resources
Summer break is right around the corner, and while school might pause for a few months, the opportunities for learning, discovery, and connection certainly donât have to stop. As your state representative, Iâm committed to making sure families in our community are connected to available resources to ensure they have a safe and fun summer. Thankfully, our region is home to a wide range of free and budget-friendly programs that kids â and adults â can enjoy. I encourage you to take full advantage and share these opportunities with anyone who might benefit.

District 20 News: Fighting to save Pittsburgh Regional Transit
As a state representative serving Allegheny County, I hear from constituents every day who rely on Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) to get to work, the doctorâs office, school, and to see loved ones. Indeed, members of my own staff rely exclusively on PRT to get them to my office to serve you. Public transit isnât just another line item in the budget â itâs a lifeline for our communities. And right now, as PRT riders already know, that lifeline is in jeopardy.

While we get ready to swap our winter gear for summer attire, I want to take a moment to highlight some notable services from my office.

District 1 News: Various city projects planned for construction season
Hello everyone, While we begin to enjoy warmer weather and the sounds of spring, that also tends to bring along a different, perhaps more irritating sound: one of construction. At the end of March, construction season in the Northside officially began with the start of the long awaited North Avenue Signals & Safety project. I am excited to see the upgrades to the traffic signals and pedestrian crosswalks along North Avenue from Arch Street to Middle Street. While this will be a temporary headache, with detours and delays, the end result will be worth it. To follow along, check out the projectâs Engage page here: engage. pit tsburghpa.gov/nor th-avenue-signals- and-safety-project.

District 21 News: âPowell to the Peopleâ event to be held at De Fer Coffee
Happy spring neighbors! The days are longer, and the weather is warmer â looks like Punxsutawney Phil was not very accurate in his prediction this year. Iâm excited for District 21 to enjoy the spring, especially because our office has plenty of services to offer.

District 20 News: Cutting SNAP would hurt Pennsylvanian families
As a state lawmaker working to reduce food insecurity in the Commonwealth, I am devastated to see members of Congress supporting a $230 billion cut to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding in the federal budget resolution that passed the U.S. House in February. Serving as Pennsylvania House chair of the Legislative Hunger Caucus for several years, I have met many families and individuals facing hunger and seen firsthand just how crucial SNAP funding is for over two million Pennsylvanians. Despite the incredible work of food banks, mutual aid organizations, and anti-hunger advocates, far too many Pennsylvanians still struggle to put food on the table. SNAP provides critical assistance to low-income families, helping them afford groceries and maintain a basic standard of nutrition. That is why I am fighting against these monstrous cuts and will continue supporting policies that help ensure everyone can access nutritious meals.
