District 21 Update: Bill aims to create countywide short-term rental registries

District 21 Update: Bill aims to create countywide short-term rental registries

Neighbors,

Nearly two years ago, I directed the Joint State Government Commission to study short-term rental regulations across Pennsylvania. The findings were clear and concerning: the industry lacks transparency, accountability, and consistent standards. In response, I am working with Rep. Mary Jo Daley to introduce legislation establishing a statewide framework that sets minimum safeguards while recognizing the differences between homestays, vacation rentals, and large property portfolios.

The bill would create countywide short-term rental registries accessible to law enforcement and emergency responders, require clear disclosure of property ownership and operators, and designate a responsible local contact available in emergencies. Importantly, the legislation would not override existing municipal regulations. At its core, this effort is about protecting responsible hosts, advancing public safety, and providing municipalities with the clarity they need to support housing stability.

I remain committed to delivering tangible results for our communities. At the end of 2025, I secured $125,000 in state funding to preserve key Northside cultural landmarks, including St. Anthony Chapel in Spring Garden and the historic Allegheny Elks Lodge Building in Deutschtown. I also helped secure $75,000 for the Voeghtly Street Shelter to expand critical services, and $100,000 for Riverlife to restore River Avenue — ensuring safe, accessible green spaces for families across the Northside.

Looking ahead, my priorities remain unchanged: ensuring Pennsylvanians have safe housing, affordable health care, and enough food to support their families. I remain committed to working with colleagues to advance thoughtful, people-centered legislation in the Pennsylvania House.

As always, my office is here to help with any state-related issues including applying for LIHEAP , the Pennsylvania Property Tax/Rent Rebate program, free bus passes for seniors 65+, and more. As always, if you need assistance with any state-related matter, don’t hesitate to call my office at (412)-781-2750 or email at [email protected]

Be well,

Lindsay Powell
