District 1 News: Various city projects planned for construction season
Hello everyone, While we begin to enjoy warmer weather and the sounds of spring, that also tends to bring along a different, perhaps more irritating sound: one of construction. At the end of March, construction season in the Northside officially began with the start of the long awaited North Avenue Signals & Safety project. I am excited to see the upgrades to the traffic signals and pedestrian crosswalks along North Avenue from Arch Street to Middle Street. While this will be a temporary headache, with detours and delays, the end result will be worth it. To follow along, check out the project’s Engage page here: engage. pit tsburghpa.gov/nor th-avenue-signals- and-safety-project. 05/07/2025 09:00 AM

Happy spring neighbors! The days are longer, and the weather is warmer — looks like Punxsutawney Phil was not very accurate in his prediction this year. I’m excited for District 21 to enjoy the spring, especially because our office has plenty of services to offer. 05/01/2025 09:00 AM
District 20 News: Cutting SNAP would hurt Pennsylvanian families
District 20 News: Cutting SNAP would hurt Pennsylvanian families
As a state lawmaker working to reduce food insecurity in the Commonwealth, I am devastated to see members of Congress supporting a $230 billion cut to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding in the federal budget resolution that passed the U.S. House in February. Serving as Pennsylvania House chair of the Legislative Hunger Caucus for several years, I have met many families and individuals facing hunger and seen firsthand just how crucial SNAP funding is for over two million Pennsylvanians. Despite the incredible work of food banks, mutual aid organizations, and anti-hunger advocates, far too many Pennsylvanians still struggle to put food on the table. SNAP provides critical assistance to low-income families, helping them afford groceries and maintain a basic standard of nutrition. That is why I am fighting against these monstrous cuts and will continue supporting policies that help ensure everyone can access nutritious meals. 04/30/2025 04:00 PM

District 20 News: Putting Pennsylvanians first in the state budget
As a state lawmaker who believes that our government should do the most good for the most people, I know that the state budget is more than just numbers on a page— it’s a statement of our values. On Feb. 4, Gov. Josh Shapiro unveiled a $51.5 billion budget proposal for the 2025-26 fiscal year. Overall, Shapiro’s proposed budget is a forward-thinking plan that prioritizes working families, education, housing, and public safety. While there is always room for improvement, this proposal demonstrates that Democrats in Pennsylvania are committed to using tax dollars to improve life for all Pennsylvanians. 03/31/2025 09:00 PM

Hello neighbors, I can’t believe March is already here! I hope you all are taking care of yourselves during some of the coldest days of the year. Punxsutawney Phil recently predicted six more weeks of winter — I’m still grappling with this reality. One of these days I’m going to have to sit down and have a chat with him. 03/31/2025 09:00 AM

District 1 News: HAP applications accepted until March 14
Hello everyone, I want to remind you all that applications are being accepted for the Homeowner Assistance Program (HAP) until March 14 at 4 P.M. This year, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) partnered with ACTION-Housing to provide financial assistance of up to $35,000 to homeowners for rehabilitating and improving their homes within the City of Pittsburgh. The program provides grants that may be used for the following: to bring homes into compliance with City of Pittsburgh codes, to undertake energy efficiency improvements, or to undertake eligible general property improvements. 03/12/2025 09:00 AM

As lawmakers embark on a new legislative session in 2025, I am already diving into tackling the issues that matter most to residents of Allegheny County, and Pennsylvanians from every corner of the Commonwealth. As a state representative since 2020, I have become intimately familiar with the challenges my constituents face in the boroughs of Avalon, Bellevue, West View, Ross Township, and parts of Pittsburgh. I’m committed to representing our communities’ values of equality, opportunity, and compassion by crafting practical solutions that focus on investing in working people, protecting the communities we’ve built, and opening doors for those who’ve been left behind. In this column, I outline four pieces of legislation I am planning to reintroduce this session that I believe will improve life for all who call Pennsylvania home. 02/26/2025 05:00 PM

District 1 News: Wilson examines Inclusionary Zoning proposals
Hello everyone, I want to take the time to share a few of my priorities for the Northside and District 1 for 2025. The topic of Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) is front and center for City Council. Mayor Gainey has submitted a city-wide IZ proposal to the Planning Commission, requiring developers to build 10% of their total units at 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or below. Full details can be found here: engage.pittsburghpa.gov/implementing- housing-needs-assessment/ inclusionary-zoning-iz. The Planning Commission is expected to vote on this proposal soon, and it will likely come to City Council in February. 02/05/2025 12:00 PM
