Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion to save their life. That someone might be a child battling cancer, a mother experiencing complications during childbirth, or a car accident victim requiring emergency surgery. Despite these urgent needs, only about 3% of eligible Americans donate blood annually.

District 20 News: Rep. Kinkead looks back at 2023-24 Legislative Session
As 2024 comes to a close, it’s an important time for state lawmakers in Pennsylvania to reflect on the 2023-24 Legislative Session and begin preparing for the next two-year session. Throughout the 2023-24 Legislative Session, my colleagues and I passed 428 bills in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and delivered billions of taxpayer dollars to improve communities across the Commonwealth. While there will always be areas in which we could have gone further, I’m proud of everything we accomplished in the legislature over the last two years and am eager to dive into another term as a state representative.

The weather has been chilly as of late, so if you have someone in your life who is struggling with paying their utility bill, the LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance program) application is now OPEN until April 5, 2025. Magisterial District 05-2-42 News: Be informed, get involved
Depending on who is doing the counting and how you consider the borders, there are anywhere from 11 to over 20 different neighborhoods that make up Pittsburgh’s Northside. A simple Google search will give you 12 listed neighborhoods while the Northside Leadership Council lists 18. One thing is for sure; no matter how you count the various neighborhoods here on the Northside, there is no shortage of opportunities for Northsiders to be informed and get involved in what’s happening in your particular neighborhood.

District 20 News: LIHEAP can help pay for your heating bill this winter
For families living on low incomes in Pennsylvania, financial assistance is available through LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) to help pay heating bills during the cold winter months. Approved applicants for LIHEAP receive a one-time cash grant (does not need to be repaid) that is sent directly to their utility company or fuel provider. Additional LIHEAP benefits may be available for households experiencing a heating emergency, like a broken heater or gas line that must be replaced.

Guide to the 2024 United States general election for Northsiders
The United States general election will take place this month on Nov. 5. Polls across Pennsylvania will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., though anyone in line at 8 p.m. will still be permitted to vote.
