December poll results reported to close out year

By Sean P. Ray | Managing Editor

Goodbye December. Goodbye 2023. But before we leave, let’s take a look at last month’s round of poll results, a final hurrah for the year.

We kicked things off in the aftermath of Thanksgiving by asking when our readers like to shop after that holiday. After all, Christmas was just around the corner, and some people like to get a jump on that sort of thing.

But evidently not our readers, as 66% of respondents said they don’t go out shopping after Thanksgiving. The remaining 33% went to Black Friday, while Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday received no such votes. Well, sometimes those sales periods can be too hectic for their own good, and maybe not worth the savings.

With December kicking off, we asked what your favorite winter activity is. And the results were unanimous, a rarity for our polls! A full 100% of respondents said skiing/snowboarding was their favorite thing to do in winter. Our readers have a need to hit the slopes and to feel that cold winter air blowing past them as they race down the mountain, it seems.

As Christmas approaches, Christmas songs take over the radio. Whether they’re “Jingle Bell Rock,” “White Christmas” or the often bemoaned “All I Want for Christmas is You,” it’s hard to escape these holiday tunes. We asked our readers how they felt about these songs, and got another unanimous answer, with a 100% for “Love them!”

Unanimity was a theme for this batch of results, as our final poll for the month asked “Was 2023 a good year for you?” It apparently was, as 100% of respondents voted “One of the best.”

Well, that brings an end to this batch of poll results and the end to our poll results of the year. We hope you join us in 2024 to give your answers to our weekly polls and we’ll keep publishing the results in the paper.

Our polls are posted every Sunday morning to thenorthsidechronicle.com. Just scroll down on the home page and you’ll find them along the left hand side.
