December poll results reported

By Sean P. Ray | Managing Editor

As you may have noticed by now, today’s issue is all about looking back with the Year in Review. However, there’s a part of every edition of The Chronicle that looks back, specifically at the results of our weekly polls. Now it’s time for the last poll results summary of the year, a look back at how our readers responded to our December polls.

Kicking things off and just coming off of Thanksgiving, we asked what everyone’s least favorite Thanksgiving food was. Sure everyone has a dish they most look forward to, but what about the one they avoid at all costs?

This ended up being a four-way tie, and between some Thanksgiving classics! Each sharing 25% of the vote was corn, pumpkin pie, turkey and the nebulous “other” category. Personally, I’m actually not that big a fan of most Thanksgiving food, but I’d probably award cranberry sauce the dishonor of being my least favorite. Love my mashed potatoes, however.

The end of Thanksgiving means the start of the holiday shopping season as everyone begins searching for the best deals on gifts. As such, we asked what our readers’ favorite post-Thanksgiving deal day was. And taking home 100% of the vote was Small Business Saturday! Glad to see our readers supporting small businesses.

We were hit with some snow in December, though it usually didn’t stick around too long. So we asked if our readers liked snow at all. This was a three-way tie between “yep, I want it all through winter,” “Just a little bit is fine,” and “I really don’t like snow.” So mostly positive, but some people are strongly opposed.

Christmas was coming up fast, so on Dec. 22 we asked if our readers had finished their Christmas shopping. This turned out to be another three-way tie, between “yep, finished a while ago,” “yep, just recently finished” and “I’m going to finish this week.” I got most of my shopping done fairly early this year, but had one or two last-minute gift purchases.

Finally, as the holidays had come and gone (save for New Years), we closed out the year by asking how many festive movies readers watched this holiday season. And going with the theme of ties for these poll results, this was a four-way tie between none; one or two; three to five; and six or more. I was in the “one or two” category this year, having watched “Scrooged” and, if you count it, “1941,” which takes place in December but isn’t really about the spirit of the holidays. Very funny, underrated movie, however.

Well that’s our final poll results for 2024. We’ll be back next issue with the first batch of results of 2025 next issue.

Don’t forget to check out our weekly poll results at thenorthsidechronicle.com. New polls are posted every Sunday. Have an idea for a poll? Email it to editor@thenorthsidechronicle.com and we might just include it.
