October poll results reported

By Sean P. Ray | Managing Editor

We’re in the last full month of fall folks. But before we fully say farewell to October, let’s take the time to look at the results of our weekly polls from the spookiest month of the year.

First off, we asked readers where they choose to read their copies of The Northside Chronicle. Turns out digital is very popular (or more likely our digital readers are more apt to respond to our website polls), as 66% said they read it online, while the remaining 33% said they’re a subscriber and have it delivered. Just a reminder that our subscription drive is still ongoing, so now We wrapped up our latest photo contest last month, that being the “Northsiders on Vacation” competition. As such, we asked whether our readers had ever taken part in one of our photo contests. This turned out to be an even 50/50 split, with half saying they’ve submitted a photo while the other half said they’ve voted in the contest.

If you’ve never submitted before, our latest contest is the most accessible one yet with the category of “Anything Goes.” We’ll take any kind of appropriate photo as an entry.

Fall is the time when the weather starts getting colder and people begin busting out warm beverages. Or at least drinking them much more than usual. So we asked what’s your favorite warm drink.

This was a very competitive question, ending in a four-way tie. Receiving 25% of the vote each were coffee, tea, hot cider and the nebulous “other” response. No love given to hot chocolate or warm milk, however.

As part of Oktoberfest in Pittsburgh, a Ferris wheel was temporarily installed on the Roberto Clemente Bridge. It was quite the sight, but we were curious how many of our readers rode on it.

This ended in another 50/50 split, half of respondents saying “Yes, it was fun” and the other half saying “No, I wasn’t interested.”

Finally, with October being the month of Halloween and all things horror, we asked how many scary movies our readers watched during the month. And it turns out we’ve got some spooky fans among our readership, as 100% of respondents said they’d watch a few this October.

That brings an end to our poll results for this month. We’ll be back next month with another round of results. Make sure to vote in our weekly polls, published every Sunday to thenorthsidechronicle.com’s homepage.
