November 2023 poll results released

By Sean P. Ray | Managing Editor

We’ve finished out November and are now on to the last month of 2023. But as we welcome December, let’s take a moment to look back on the results of The Chronicle’s November poll results.

We technically kicked off this round of results in October, so our first question asked our readers what their Halloween plans were. A resounding 80% of you, however, aren’t fans of the holiday, and responded with “I don’t celebrate Halloween.” Boo, I say, boo. The final 20% got into the spirit of the holiday, saying they would either be trickor- treating, or handing out candy.

On Nov. 5, we rolled the clocks back as we switched from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time. We asked our readers if they were looking forward to the switch.

The answer was a pretty resounding “no.” A total of 55% of respondents said they preferred Daylight Savings Time. Only 20% said they preferred Standard Time, followed by 15% saying they only liked the extra hour of sleep and 10% saying they were indifferent.

Our next poll was also our most popular, as we asked what our readers’ favorite kind of restaurant to eat at was. Claiming the top spot was “Bar & Grill” at 39.1% of the vote. “Diner” followed at 21.7%. The nebulous “Other” option claimed 13% of the vote, with “Italian” and “Asian” coming in at a tie at 8.7% of the vote. Finally, “Café” and “Pizza Place” each received 4.3% and “Hispanic” got no votes. I guess our readers aren’t a fan of spicy foods.

November is the kick off of the holiday shopping season, but we wanted to know how soon our readers began their gift shopping. Exactly half of respondents said they begin on Black Friday, while 33% said they don’t celebrate a gift-giving holiday. A final 15% said they start as early as they can.

Of course, before we can get to any gift exchange holidays, we have to have Thanksgiving first. So for our final question, we asked our readers what their favorite Thanksgiving food was. Coming out on top with 33% of the vote was “Mashed Potatoes with Gravy,” followed closely by “Turkey,” which received 25%. “Stuffing” and “Other” tied at 16.6% of the vote, while “Apple or Pumpkin Pie” got 8.3%. No votes were given for “Bread Rolls” or “Corn.”

And that brings an end to our latest round of poll results. We’ll be back next month. In the meantime, make sure to cast your vote in our weekly polls, posted every Sunday at thenorthsidechronicle.com.
