CoLab 18 Opens in Nova Place

New collaborative work and programming space opens in Nova Place

Earlier today the new 4,600-square-foot CoLab 18 opened its doors to the public.

“One of the greatest challenges facing the Pittsburgh region is making sure opportunity is available for all – not just a few – and that is especially true in the technology space. CoLab18 should not only be a critical tool to build inclusive innovation in the Northside, but [also] be a model for all Pittsburgh neighborhoods,” Mayor William Peduto said in a press release.

CoLab 18 is a new communal workspace inside Nova Place that aims to provide a viable outlet for businesses, community groups and educational programming. The space can accommodate up to 150 guests and will feature digital classrooms, conferences rooms  along with a variety of gadgetry including tablets, high-speed internet and a multi-purpose work room.

The initiative is a multi-group effort in part of The Buhl Foundation’s One Northside Consensus Plan, which aims to improve the Northside’s commitment to education, employment and housing. In fact, the numerical value in the name CoLab 18, is a dedication to the 18 neighborhoods that make up the Northside.

The space is open to the public and can be reserved for private events through CoLab 18’s website. Upcoming programs include two meet and greet sessions for United Way’s “Be a Middle School Mentor” program in March and April. Citizens Bank will also be hosting a four-part financial literacy workshop.

CoLab 18 is a joint effort between The Buhl Foundation, BNY Mellon, Riverside Center for Innovation, Urban Innovation 21, Faros Properties and Comcast.
