October poll results reported

By Sean P. Ray | Managing Editor

October has come to a close, which means it’s once again time to report on the past month’s poll results.

Kicking off for the month, we asked whether you took part in the Northside Views Photo Contest. Our third photo contest ran from July to September, and ended in a close race, the winner chosen only by a single vote. Carla Cardello of Troy Hill came out on top with her picture of Downtown Pittsburgh from the 10th floor of Allegheny General Hospital. As for our poll, 40% of respondents said they submitted a photo, and 20% each said they “voted for a photo,” hadn’t taken part but had heard about it and didn’t take part and hadn’t heard about it.

Well, if you want your chance, our current photo contest, “Spirit of the Holidays” is running right now. You can find entry rules on page 4 of today’s issue.

Next up, with autumn fully under sway, we asked what is your favorite thing about fall. There was a threeway tie for top response, with “Leaves changing colors,” “Thanksgiving” and “Cooler weather” getting 25% of the vote each. “Halloween” and “Harvest festivals” tied for second, at 12.5% of the vote each. As it turns out, the Northside isn’t a big pumpkin spice fan, as “Pumpkin spice and other fall foods” received no votes. Maybe we just don’t have enough Starbucks on this side of town?

While Halloween didn’t win the last poll, one of its most popular attractions was at center stage of the next poll. We asked “Have you ever gone to haunted house attractions?” Well, it turns out, Northsiders aren’t fans. A total of 66% said “Nope, never. Too scary.” The remaining 33% went to “I’ve done a few here or there.” Personally, I’m a big haunted house fan, dear readers. Give them a chance if you haven’t.

We closed the month out with our most popular poll, asking how our readers felt about the deer hunts taking place in Riverview Park. If you want more details about these hunts, check out our article on page 3 of this edition. The highest vote getter was “I support them” at 38.8%, followed by “I’m neutral on them” at 33.3%. “I’m against them” received 22.2% of the vote, while “I didn’t know about them” came last, at 05.5% of the vote. Well, hopefully our article helps solve that for our readers.

That brings an end to our latest round of poll results. Our polls are voted every Sunday at thenorthsidechronicle. com in case you want to take part in the vote. The polls are on our homepage along the right hand side. We’ll be back in December with the next round of poll results.
