The Children’s Museum is hosting a virtual neighborhood singalong, and you’re invited

Do your children need something to do at home? Now, with a push from the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, they can make their own music video.

The museum is hosting a virtual “Neighborhood Singalong” as part of their “Museum at Home” series.

The museum will invite families to sing along to “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” by Latrobe native Fred Rogers.

Families are invited to record a video of their own rendition of the iconic song in any format: singing, playing the piano, strumming the guitar, or playing the drums, for example. Rock out in your own living room—or even in your own bedroom.

If you don’t have an instrument to play, the Museum at Home series has posted videos for you to learn how to make your own. An audio track of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” with sing-along lyrics is also available to help families get started.

Dance renditions of the song are also welcome. The museum has posted a music-only track of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” if you opt for this option. You can perform a ballet dance or create your own style—any dance is welcome.

Videos can be submitted through any of the following platforms:

  • Email: [email protected]
  • Facebook: Submit via Messenger at Facebook.com/pittsburghkids or in a comment thread
  • Instagram or Twitter: Be sure to tag @pghkids

The Museum at Home series encourages children to participate in activities to express their creativity at home. Past activities have included virtual tutorials on how to make items such as pop-up cards, piñatas, and confetti poppers. The Museum at Home series also shows them how to explore plant life in their own backyard, how to make recyclable planters and even how to make hardware jewelry. For more information on this and other Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh initiatives, visit pittsburghkids.org.
