Catch Guggenheim Fellow Kate Daniels reading from her new book of poems at Alphabet City, meet up with your Northside neighbors to help clean Lake Elizabeth and bring your pets to Wagsburgh to have their photos taken with the Easter Bunny. All of this and more, this weekend in the Northside.

Northside Public Safety Council Meeting

Barks and Brews at Allegheny City Brewing
Come out to support Joey’s PAW at the Allegheny City Brewery. Enjoy the amazing beer on tap along with great food by ASADO by Gaucho food truck. There will also be raffle baskets. More information available here.

Fish Fry & More at Riverview Church
Stop by from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for lunch or dinner at the Riverview Church’s almost famous fish fry! Good Friday at The Andy Warhol Museum

Kate Daniels at Alphabet City
Guggenheim Fellow Kate Daniels’ new book of poems In the Months of my Son’s Recovery describes a mother’s descent into Hell to save her son. What she finds is that she cannot save him – she can save only herself – and only by letting him go. This is the nightmare of America’s heroin epidemic, told succinctly, beautifully, every line exploring the depth of our national nightmare. Supporting Kate, two wonderful Pittsburgh poets will be reading – Ellen McGrath Smith and Andy Feathers. More information here.

Lake Elizabeth Clean Up
Last May, neighbors of Allegheny Commons Park volunteered their time to clean out Lake Elizabeth. This year, the Department of Public Works (DPW) will partner with the Parks Conservancy to coordinate a volunteer clean up of the lake on Saturday, April 6, from 8 to 11 a.m. DPW has requested to do this event earlier in the season to avoid the issues faced last year when a combination of the warm weather and build up of debris causing a foul odor and unsightly algae blooms. DPW will be on site with volunteers to help with the clean up. Please join! Tools, gloves, and all needed equipment will be provided. Light snacks and coffee will be provided with water throughout the event. Register for free here.
Gary Fincke at City Books
Fincke will reading from his new poetry collection, The Infinity Room (MSU Press, 2019). Event starts at 7 p.m. In The Infinity Room the reader will find polished, precise poems that are built around the author’s experiences of touring Nevada’s atomic bomb test sites, the Chernobyl disaster site, and Oak Ridge, as well as living for decades near Three Mile Island. Pet Photos with the Easter Bunny at Wagsburgh
Bring your pets to North Side/Shore Chamber member Wagsburg at 632 E. Ohio St., 15212 to have their pictures taken with the Hoppin’ Fun Easter Bunny. Wagsburgh has exciting changes this year that you can only see if you show up. See the Facebook event page for more information.
Baytree Garden Work Day
Stop by the Baytree Community Garden space, 3712 Baytree St., for a spring clean up which will start at 10 a.m. Volunteers will clear up winter debris and prep the space for summer planting. For more information, click here to visit the Observatory Hill neighborhood website.
Toi Derricotte: Celebration and Book Launch at Alphabet City
A reading with Toi Derricotte celebrating the launch of her new poetry collection “I”: New and Selected Poems. After the reading, stay for a screening of Strong Words: The Art of Toi Derricotte. The program will include a short interlude between the reading and screening. 5 p.m. – Reading and Q&A; 7 p.m. – Full documentary screening (Run time: 2hrs 15min) Light refreshments served before the screening!
