Northside Happenings November 1 to 4, 2018

This weekend, check out a photo exhibition of female pilots in 1920s Pittsburgh at the Photo Antiquities Museum,  a festival celebrating pierogies at the St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church, a free community CrossFit class at Industrial Athletics CrossFit Alloy and more!

Thursday, Nov. 1

Grand Opening: The Golden Age of Flying at Photo Antiquities Museum

Visit the Photo Antiquities Museum for a photo exhibition exploring women in flight in 1920s Pittsburgh. Features images of famous air races, airplanes and the female pilots who flew them. More information available via Facebook.

Manchester Citizens Corporation (MCC) Community Meeting: Gentrification

Graduate students from the University of Pittsburgh are studying gentrification and want to work with Manchester. Meet at 6 p.m. at the MCC Center at 1319 Allegheny Ave., first floor, to discuss race, affordable housing and community change.

Northside Public Safety Council (NPSC) Meeting

The NPSC meets starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church on 971 Beech Avenue, 15233. Church is located on the corner of Allegheny Avenue and Beech Avenue. There is parking on Dounton Way.

Friday, Nov. 2

Free Admission at the Children’s Museum

The Children’s Museum is offering free admission to serve as a safe space, “where families can play and be creative in this difficult time,” following the Tree of Life shootings. Open 10 to 5 p.m. daily. More information available on The Children’s Museum website.

The Plimsouls at Get Hip

The Plimsouls, a “resurgence of the 1980s California rock band, but with a new look,” with guest, Royal Honey, are live at Get Hip Recordings, 1800 Columbus Ave., 15233, from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $17 at the door. More information via Facebook and tickets available via Eventbrite.

Saturday, Nov. 3

3rd Annual Pierogie Fest at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church

On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., enjoy seven varieties of pierogies, three kinds of soups and baked goods. More information available via Facebook.

Free Community Workout at Industrial Athletics CrossFit Alloy

Have you ever wanted to try CrossFit? Meet coaches and learn how CrossFit can benefit your life at this free event for the Pittsburgh community. Leaves from Aleppo: Saleh, a Collage at Alphabet City

This “true-life multimedia presentation” is part dramatic stage reading, part audiovisual collage. Event is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will be held downstairs in the intimate Word Cellar room. Assembled, written, and performed by Philip Terman and Scott Minar. More information and free tickets available on the Alphabet City website.

Pizza & Mimosas at Threadbare Cider House

Sunday brunch at Threadbare is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes $6 mimosas and breakfast pizzas. Full brunch menu available on the Threadbare website.
