Close out the month of September this weekend with the final Fish Fry Friday at Riverview Church, an open house at the Allegheny Observatory and a City of Asylum “jazz and poetry interlude” featuring musician Jaimeo Brown and poet Lauren Russell.

Thursday, September 27

Toastmasters Club at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Allegheny

Build your confidence as you learn how to listen and communicate effectively. Join the Northside Toastmasters Club this and every 2nd and 4th Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the main meeting room. Email [email protected] with questions.

Unity Corner Planting Party

Join Northside neighbors from 6 to 8 p.m. to plant grasses and install a commemorative plaque for the “final installation hurrah” at Unity Corner garden and gathering space. Located at 1661 Perrysville Ave., or the intersection of Federal Street and Perrysville Avenue. More information available via Facebook.

Final Fish Fry Friday at Riverview Church

“It’s like Lent in September!” Every Friday in September from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. “Come for the excellent fish, stay for the friendly conversation and tasty sides.” Proceeds benefit the host, Riverview Church, located at 3505 Perrysville Ave. More information available via Facebook.

Miguel Gutierrez: SADONNA at The Warhol Theater

Co-presented with Carnegie Mellon University School of Art and School of Drama, SADONNA is “sad versions of Madonna songs” by choreographer Miguel Gutierrez. Also featuring the SLUTINOS, the Sad Latino Boys Backup Singers. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit The Andy Warhol Museum website. Show starts at 8 p.m.

Allegheny Observatory Open House

Held once a year, this open house gives the public access to more of the building that the normal tour. Guests follow a designated tour path around the building. Tickets are free of charge: Reserve yours by calling 412-321-2400. Maximum group size is six. More information available via Facebook.

Jaimeo Brown: International Suite

From 7 to 9 p.m., join musicians Jaimeo Brown, Chris Sholar and Jaleel Shaw as they close out City of Asylum’s Jazz Poetry Month with root African American songs and spiritual and work song samplings. Writers Javier Zamora, Osama Alomar, Jenny Johnson, Lauren Russell and Tina Chang will collaborate for a “jazz and poetry interlude.” R.S.V.P. for free at the City of Asylum website.

Sunday, September 30

Manchester Multi-House Yard Sale

Starting at 9 a.m., several neighbors along the 1200 to 1400 blocks of Sheffield Street in Manchester are hosting a multiple-house yard sale. Antiques, collectibles, housewares, clothing and more will be for sale.

Northside Scavenger Hunt

Federal Galley put together a scavenger hunt in partnership with Ketel One Vodka. Entry and welcome cocktail are free. Prizes for first, second and third place. More information via Facebook.
