Northside Happenings June 7 to 10, 2018

Looks like the Northside has gone Hollywood, for a weekend at least, with casting calls at Wigle Whiskey, Deutschtown Music Festival performers in Market Square and the grand premiere of Pittsburgh-filmed “Living While Black” web-series.

Thursday, June 7

Trivia at Bier’s Pub

The War Streets Brewery Taproom inside Bier’s Pub will be hosting a trivia night at 6 p.m. Guests can form teams up to 4 and will compete in 5 rounds of trivia. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

Gilligan’s Sorbet Tasting at Allegheny City Brewing

ACB will be hosting a special tasting of Gilligan’s Sorbet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Gilligan’s will be offering up two selections that will each be paired with an ACB beer. The orange pineapple sorbet will be matched with the Hullabaloo Hefeweizen and the chocolate sorbet will be paired with the Northside Buzz Coffee IPA. “Mindhunter” Casting Call at Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse

Looking for your big Hollywood break? Casting agents for the hit Netflix show “Mindhunter” will be holding open casting calls for Season 2, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse and Whiskey Garden. Riverview Park 5K Walk/Run

Why not kickoff Riverview Park’s Heritage Day weekend with a little exercise? Observatory Hill Inc. (OHI) will be hosting the race which will lead participants throughout Riverview Park. The race starts at 7 p.m., volunteers can register online or at the event. Observatory Hill Inc. will also be hosting Observatory Hill’s Heritage Day on Saturday, June 9 from noon to 4 p.m. For additional information on Heritage Day, visit OHI’s event page.

Northside Farmer’s Market

The Northside Farmer’s Market made its return last week. Every Friday, local vendors will be on site in East Allegheny Commons Park from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

“Living While Black” Premiere at Alloy 26

“Living While Black” is a comedic web-series filmed and set in Pittsburgh and will air a debut episode at 7 p.m. in Alloy 26. The show is centered on Nia, a young African-American woman who is trying to make sense of relationships, societal strains and mental health issues as an African American woman in White America. Junk in the Trunk Flea Market

The Emmanuel Christian Church in Brighton Heights will be hosting the first in their monthly Junk in the Trunk Flea Market event series at 8 a.m. The market will be open until 2 p.m. and refreshments will be available for purchase. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

Deutschtown Goes Downtown

Can’t wait for the Deutschtown Music Festival? Swing down to Market Square for a special preview featuring performances from BBGuns, Clara Kent, Devin Moses and his Imaginary Friend, and DJ KantiKasa Williams. The show starts at 5 p.m. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

Rummage Show at Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish

Bicycle Heaven Annual Bike Show and Swap

Archie and the Bunkers at Get Hip Records

Vinyl Record Night at The Park House

Kathleen George at Arnold’s Tea

Pittsburgh-based author Kathleen George will be at Arnold’s Tea from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. promoting her new book, “The Blues Walked In.” George published the novel earlier this year and will be doing a book reading and discussion. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

Spring Concert at Calvary United Methodist Church
