Carnegie Library-Allegheny announces expanded hours

Beginning June 4, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Allegheny, 1230 Federal St., will be open 12- 5 p.m. on Sundays to meet the increased demand for library services.

“The additional Sunday hours enable the Library to increase the community’s access to services, programs and materials just in time for the start of Summer Reading,” said Mary Monaghan, assistant director of neighborhood libraries. “Summer reading is such an important part of library services and our commitment to education and literacy. Reading in general allows all ages to explore interests, discover new ones and connect with others, introducing people and experiences that are different from their own.”

CLP – Allegheny was chosen for the expanded hours by a team of library staff based on several factors, including geographic distribution of Sunday hours throughout the City and existing street traffic from other businesses on Sundays in the neighborhood. The Allegheny location has a full slate of programs set for the summer:

Timbeleza presents Kids
Summer Reading Kick-Off
Sunday, June 4 at 1 p.m.
Celebrate the beginning of summer by signing the whole family up for Summer Reading and enjoying the beats of percussion band Timbeleza!

Bike Fix
July 2, July 30 & August 27 at 1 p.m.
Kids and teens can tune up their bikes and get help from an expert mechanic.
Hands On: Interactive Learning Sundays for Adults
On Sundays, stop by the self-guided learning station and explore something new. Sewing, photography, music or storytelling; each week will feature a new task.

King Fez
Sunday, July 23 at noon.
Bring the whole family for a raucous musical performance by one of Pittsburgh’s most unique and enjoyable music groups.
