Town Talk: Happy Day Dessert Factory — We all scream for ice cream!
“You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream” are the catchy lyrics of the 1925 song entitled “Ice Cream” recorded by Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. Many of us (who are older) have chanted that phrase as we waited our turn at the neighborhood ice cream truck or local Dairy Queen.

Gus Kalaris, of Gus & Yiayia’s, passes at 92
The Northside is saddened by the death of one of its most prominent citizens, as Gus & Yiayia’s owner Gus Kalaris passed away on June 28, at the age of 92.

City Books celebrating 40th anniversary on Aug. 10
City Books, located in Allegheny West, is celebrating its 40th anniversary on Aug. 10. Local authors will be on hand to perform book signings, and drinks and refreshments will be served throughout the day.

Several years ago I was sitting in the office of a non-profit when a jovial fellow sauntered in delivering several cases of beverages for an event. No money or checks exchanged hands. He said a warm hello and left the office as quickly as he entered.
