When I drive down Spring Garden Avenue, it seems I am always in a hurry going to or coming from somewhere. Regrettably, I had never taken the opportunity to stop at Threadbare Cider and Mead. Nor did I know what exactly Threadbare Cider and Mead was; yet I vowed I would stop someday to check it out.

Chamber Update: 30th Annual Pumpkinfest to be held Oct. 12
Pumpkinfest is a cherished tradition on the Northside that dates back a little over 30 years. Barbara Burns, the creator, organizer, and coordinator, began this community event after taking office as an elected Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Director.

Town Talk: Happy Day Dessert Factory — We all scream for ice cream!
“You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream” are the catchy lyrics of the 1925 song entitled “Ice Cream” recorded by Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. Many of us (who are older) have chanted that phrase as we waited our turn at the neighborhood ice cream truck or local Dairy Queen.

The Northside is saddened by the death of one of its most prominent citizens, as Gus & Yiayia’s owner Gus Kalaris passed away on June 28, at the age of 92.

City Books celebrating 40th anniversary on Aug. 10
