Instead of leaving your used Christmas tree on the curb this season, consider turning it into mulch.
By NSC Staff
The Christmas Tree Recycling Program, a continued effort of the City of Pittsburgh, will open tree drop-off locations throughout Pittsburgh from Dec. 26, 2019 through Jan. 26, 2020. Drop-off sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., seven days a week. There are two drop-off sites in the Northside: the Sue Murray Swimming Pool Parking Lot in Historic Deutschtown, located at the corner of Cedar and Stockton Avenues (enter off of Stockton) and the Jack Stack Parking Lot in Brighton Heights, located at 600 Brighton Woods Rd.
Collected trees will be transported to the Department of Public Works Forestry Division and chipped into mulch. Residents will be available to pick up the mulch in the spring.
Residents are asked to remove all tree stands, ornaments, netting, and plastic bags before dropping off their Christmas trees to be recycled.
