Parks Listening Tour II: The Parks Plan at CoLab18

Phase Two of the Listening Tour will detail the plan for improved park safety, increased fair funding and access, and upgraded maintenance and facilities for all existing city parks to leave a legacy for children and grandchildren. This parks plan is being developed with community input. Be part of the conversation to improve and maintain your parks! “Are You Ready to do Business with the Airport?” at CCAC Allegheny Campus

A small business networking event hosted by the Business Diversity Outreach Department at the Allegheny County Airport Authority. Are you PA-UCP certified? Troy Hill Pop-Up Beer Release at Pear and the Pickle

It’s the release of the fourth beer in the YOU ARE HERE neighborhood beer series by East End Brewery: TROY HILL, a 4.1% ABV Sour Cherry Gose that balances tart and fresh fruit flavor (And continues the brewery’s summer Gosapalooza). We’re delighted to be releasing this beer at the delicious Pear and the Pickle at a special after-normal-hours event from 5-7pm, so come hungry and thirsty! More information available via Facebook.

African-American Heritage Day Parade & Manchester Community Day

SAVE THE DATE. Starts at 11 a.m., rain or shine. Parade route is: Pennsylvania Avenue to Manhattan Street to Juniata Street to Fulton Street. Ends at Manchester Field. Call 412-392-0322 for more information or email [email protected]. Family Unity Day is all day at Manchester Field. Live music, vendors, entertainment and back to school backpack giveaway. Dance and majorette competition: Competition Poms combined team, Stand Battle featuring Junior/Senior. BikePGH Summer Slow Roll Series

A friendly, no-drop, community bike ride this summer. A slow roll is a critical mass style bike ride with a slow and steady pace and the intention of connecting communities and sharing the road. BikePGH’s Slow Roll series is gearing up for its second season and everyone is welcome to participate! Created last year to bring together students and alumni of our youth cycling program (Positive Spin) on two wheels. Slow Roll is for everyone! All ages and experience levels are welcome. The family-friendly pace keeps everyone safe and gives riders a unique perspective of this great city. Whether you ride mountain bikes, do cross country bike trips, or simply get together with your friends and like to ride around your neighborhood, you are welcome to join! Sembene Film Festival: Azur & Asmar at Alphabet City

Join City of Asylum for a screening of Azur & Asmar presented by Sembène–The Film & Art Festival. Azur & Asmar is the story of two boys raised as brothers. Blonde, blue-eyed, white-skinned Azur and black-haired, brown-eyed, dark-skinned Asmar are lovingly cared for by Asmar’s gentle mother, who tells them magical stories of her faraway homeland and of a beautiful, imprisoned Fairy Djinn waiting to be set free. Time passes, and one day Azur’s father, the master of the house, provokes a brutal separation. Azur is sent away to study, while Asmar and his mother are driven out, homeless and penniless. Years later, as a young adult, Azur remains haunted by memories of the sunny land of his nanny and sets sail south across the high seas to find the country of his dreams. Fresh Fest Beer Fest at Nova Place

The nation’s first Black beer festival is back… and even #FRESHER! Showcasing 75+ Black breweries & collaborations, alongside 75+ artists, musicians, food trucks, and vendors. Drinking Partners and Black Brew Culture are proud to present Fresh Fest 2019, Aug 9-11 at Nova Place, Pittsburgh, PA. Kgiso Lesego Molope at Alphabet City

Join City of Asylum for a reading and audience Q&A with visiting City of Asylum writer-in-residence Kagiso Lesego Molope (South Africa), as she discusses and reads from her work Such a Lonely, Lovely Road. (Run time: 124 minutes) Kagiso Lesego Molope is an aboriginal South African author. She was born and raised in Mabopane, a township outside of Pretoria and she’s a graduate of the University of Cape Town in English Literature and Literary Theory. Romeo & Juliet: A Love Story You Choose at Urban Impact Foundation

If it was up to you, would Romeo and Juliet have a happy ending? This might just be the year! Urban Impact celebrates the 10th anniversary of Shakes with an interactive tale of love and fate, in which the audience decides what happens next. Can love live? You decide.
