Apartment complex in historic Allegheny Stables building announced

A ceremony took place on June 12 to announce a new apartment complex in the former Allegheny Stables building in Allegheny West.

Several local representatives, including Mayor Bill Peduto, Councilwoman Darlene Harris, Councilman Dan Lavelle, and John DeSantis of the Allegheny West Civic Council, were present for the announcement of a new $7.5 million, 36-unit residential apartment complex located at 836 W. North Avenue. The project is called the Allegheny City Stables Lofts, and will include the former Stables building as well as 32,000 square feet of new construction.

DeSantis told the crowd that right now, there are more people who want to live in the neighborhood of Allegheny West than there is housing for them. While there are currently just the three residential units of the Stables lofts in the one-block area, he estimates that there are 200 to come.

“The rest of these dominoes are ready to fall in place,” DeSantis said.
