There’s a little something for everyone this weekend in the Northside. Community advocates, discuss how to shape the future of Pittsburgh at the Panel on Public Engagement, gearheads, check out the first annual showcase of “Pittsburgh’s finest German cars and bikes” at FAHRZEUGFEST and for the artists: “Stoop is a Verb” Community Night at City of Asylum.

Thursday, September 13

Panel on Public Engagement

Join the City of Pittsburgh Department of City Planning for a panel discussion on shaping the future of the city. This free event will be held at the Children’s Museum and lasts from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Light dinner provided. For more details and to register, click here.

Toastmasters at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Allegheny

Build your confidence as you learn how to listen and communicate effectively. Join the Northside Toastmasters club every 2nd and 4th Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the main meeting room. Email northsidetoast@gmail.com with questions.

A Party for Barbara at Mattress Factory

Come together in celebration of the arts and the life of Barbara Luderowski, founder of Mattress Factory Museum. Craft beer and cocktails provided by Penn Brewery and Pennsylvania Libations. Entertainment provided from DJ Dave Zak and Kierra Darshell’s Divas of Drag. A pig roast, oyster bar, antipasto and sorbet also available. Parking is limited; rideshare services are encouraged. Northside Farmer’s Market

Check out the Citiparks Farmers Market every Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. through November at Allegheny Commons Park on the East Common at Cedar Avenue. ACCESS cards accepted. For more information, head to the Facebook event page.

ALCOSAN’s Open House

Enjoy the “region’s largest environmental festival” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at ALCOSAN headquarters, 3300 Preble Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, 15233. Free lunch and parking included. Yoga in the Park

FAHRZEUGFEST: German Motor Vehicle Show

Presented by Annex PGH, the first annual FAHRZEUGFEST. Food trucks, music, drinks and a sample of “Pittsburgh’s finest German cars and bikes.” Foreland Street between Middle and James Street, and the Foreland Street parking lot behind Annex will be closed off for the event. Fig Fest 2018

Experience “all things fig” at the Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse & Whiskey Garden from 2 to 5 p.m. Fig cocktails, snacks, and trees available for purchase. A representative from Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will lead a fig-themed discussion. Check out the Facebook event page for more information.

“Stoop is a Verb” Community Night

Artist Oliver Lake interviewed Northside residents, then sampled and mixed phrases from the interviews into the music of this 70-minute jazz show. The show incorporates music, spoken word, vocals and dance. Music is provided by the Oliver Lake Quintet: Yoichi Uzeki on piano, Robert Sabin on bass, Gene Lake on drums and Bruce Williams on alto and soprano sax. Three actors and singers and two dancers from Attack Theatre will also perform. Event is from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information and to R.S.V.P. for a free ticket, check out the City of Asylum website.
