Make new friends while playing board games, toast to Oktoberfest and celebrate Riverview Park this weekend in the Northside.

Thursday, September 6

Northside Public Safety Council Meeting

The Northside Public Safety Council (NSPSC) meets on the first Thursday of every month with the Zone 1 Police Department starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Manchester Citizens Corporation (MCC), 1319 Allegheny Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, 15233. This month, a speaker from The Red Cross will address fire safety and how to apply for your home to have smoke alarms installed free of charge. Board Game Night at Threadbare

Pittsburgh Casual Games hosts this event the first Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 9 p.m. A large selection of board and card games will be available, but feel free to bring your own. R.S.V.P.s are requested. Find out more on the Facebook event page.

Big Band Swing Dancing with the Jazz Conspiracy

Every first and third Thursday of the month, join the Jazz Conspiracy band at the Allegheny Elks Lodge #339, 400 Cedar Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, 15212. The night starts at 7:15 p.m. with a dance lesson by Mark Peters, then the Jazz Conspiracy goes on from 8:00 to 10:30 p.m. Cover is $10. For more information, check out the Facebook event page.

Donation Yoga at Get Hip Records

Join Barbara of South Hills Power Yoga tonight and every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m. for Vinyasa Flow. Class price is donation-based: Suggested donations are $10. For more information, check out the Get Hip website or call 412-231-4766.

Friday, September 7

Halfway to International Women’s Day Breakfast Discussion at Alloy 26

Connect and examine the progress that’s been made for women, with the women of Alloy 26. This event is free and open to the public. For more information and a list of speakers, click here.

Fish Fry Friday at Riverview Church

“It’s like Lent in September!” Every Friday in September, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., come to Riverview Presbyterian Church and enjoy hand-battered fish, shrimp, french fries, pierogies, cole slaw and more. Proceeds benefit Riverview Presbyterian Church. More information available on the Facebook event page.

Teutonia Mannerchor’s Third Annual Oktoberfest

On Friday, September 7 and Saturday, September 8, Teutonia Mannerchor, the “premier German Singing and Cultural Society in Western Pennsylvania,” will host its Third Annual Oktoberfest from 5 to 10 p.m. This year’s fest will be held in “Traditional Münchener Style” and feature beer from Hacker-Pschorr in Munich and specialty beer from Pittsburgh Brewing and Straub’s of St. Mary’s. Food options include bratwurst, knockwurst, roast chicken, hot pretzels and potato pancakes. Band schedule and ticket information on Teutonia Mannerchor’s website.

Saturday, September 8

RP Day at Riverview Park

Hosted by the Friends of Riverview Park, the Northside Leadership Conference and Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, RP Day is the first-ever celebration of Riverview Park. Free activities include mushroom identification hikes, bike races and tours, kids’ activities, live music, free food and more! Starts at 8 a.m. See a schedule for the day on the Facebook event page.

Pittsburgh Urban Farm Tour

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., experience a self-guided tour of small farms, community gardens and apiaries throughout Pittsburgh. Northside farms featured during the tour are Ballfield Farm in Perry Hilltop and the Drew Mathieson Center in Chateau. Admission price is $15 per person; Free for kids 12 years and under. Sunday, September 9

49th Annual Mexican War Streets House & Garden Tour

The “oldest and finest house tour in the city of Pittsburgh.” Event is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Presale tickets are $18. More information here.

Boxing & Barrels at the Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse & Whiskey Garden

Wigle is pairing up with Pittsburgh Punch Fitness to offer guests a 45-60 minute boxing workout and a cocktail. Event is from 2 to 4 p.m. and tickets are $15. Check out the Wigle website for more information.
