Thursday, August 2

So, You Want to Write a Children’s Book at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Allegheny

Join Pittsburgh-based children’s author Kelly Starling Lyons for an introduction to writing children’s books. Learn about children’s book genres, the basics of publishing and how to find story ideas. Event is from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and registration is recommended. More information here.

Donation Yoga at Get Hip Records

Join Barbara of South Hills Power Yoga tonight and every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m. for Vinyasa Flow. Class meets on the third floor. Pay what you can: Suggested donation is $10. For more information, check out the Get Hip website or call 412 231-4766.

Northside Farmer’s Market

Did you know the Citiparks Farmers Market accepts ACCESS cards? Check it out every Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. through November at Allegheny Commons Park on the East Common at Cedar Avenue. For more information, head to the Facebook event page.

Three Rivers Regatta

Kick off this three-day event at Point State Park to celebrate water safety and river recreation. Enjoy food, music, boating, fireworks and family fun. “You Gotta Regatta!” More information on the website.

Northside Old Timers 11th Annual Unity Day Gathering in West Park

The first day of a two-day event. From noon to 9 p.m., enjoy music, drinks, dance performances, face painting and a bounce house. Vendors and dance groups contact Renee at 412-670-2277. For more information, check out the group’s Facebook page or call Lorraine at 412-231-1694.

VegFest

The fourth annual VegFest returns to Pittsburgh in Allegheny Commons Park East. VegFest is a free outdoor festival for animal lovers and plant-based foodies celebrating veganism and sustainable living. Expect vegan food, cruelty-free merchandise vendors, live music, informational speakers, yoga and massage. Festival lasts from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, check out the festival website.

Vinyl Record Night at Park House

The first Saturday of every month from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., bring your favorite vinyl records to Park House and play DJ. Come early: sets are first come, first served. More information on the Facebook event page.

Adoption Awareness with FurKid Rescue and California Coffee Bar

Join FurKid Rescue for its second annual Dog Adoption Event. Enjoy BBQ and donate a new dog toy or supply to receive $1.00 off your next purchase at the California Coffee Bar. All proceeds from the BBQ are donated to FurKid Rescue. More information on the Facebook event page.

“In This Corner of the World” Film Screening at Alphabet City

Hosted by City of Asylum, this animated film explores how the second World War impacts a young artist who lives near Hiroshima.
