Northside Happenings July 12 to 15, 2018

Here’s what’s up this week in the Northside:  Yoga with Felicia Savage Friedman to celebrate diversity at the Children’s Museum, two days of free, live music at the sixth annual Deutschtown Music Festival, and a performance by vocalist Kea Michaels at the Riverview Jazz Series in Riverview Park.

Thursday, July 12

P.R.I.D.E. F.I.N.E. Artist Residency Event at the Children’s Museum

Join Felicia Savage Friedman from YogaRoots on Location for drawing and yoga poses to explore the beauty and diversity of skin tone. Event is free and located in theTheater. Yoga sessions start at 1:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. Learn more about the P.R.I.D.E. (Positive Racial Identity Development in Early Education) Program, the F.I.N.E. (Fresh Innovative Nonstop Expression) Art Residency, and this event on the Children’s Museum website.

Live Music in the Beer Garden at Federal Galley

Local musicians hold acoustic performances every Thursday night throughout the summer in the Beer Garden at Federal Galley. This week, enjoy a performance by singer/songwriter duo Scott & Rosanna. Free to attend. More information is available on the Facebook event page.

Deutschtown Music Festival

The sixth annual Deutschtown Music Festival is a free, two-day event with plenty of family friendly entertainment options. Good Friday at the Andy Warhol Museum

Enjoy half-price admission, extended hours, and a cash bar every Friday night from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Andy Warhol Museum. Current exhibitions include “Adman: Warhol Before Pop,” focusing on Warhol’s first ten years in New York and his commercial illustration work.

Spring Garden & East Deutschtown Community-Wide Yard Sale

Stroll over from the Deutschtown Music Festival, meet your neighbors, and find some second-hand treasures. Sale goes from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Dancing Queen Band at the Rivers Casino Drum Bar

“Pittsburgh’s Premier Disco Party Band” performs at the Rivers Casino Drum Bar starting at 9:00 p.m. See the Facebook event page for more information.

Stars at Riverview Jazz Series at Riverview Park

Bring a blanket or lawn chair, relax, and listen to music from local jazz artists. This week, vocalist Kea Michaels performs. Deutschtown Music Festival Litter Clean Up

Help keep Pittsburgh’s Northside litter-free! From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., volunteer to pick up litter in the Allegheny West and Deutschtown neighborhoods. The Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) will provide breakfast pastries and gloves, vests, bags, and litter pickers for volunteers.  Sign-up online or email [email protected] with questions. Volunteers will meet in the public parking lot adjacent to Allegheny City Brewing.

Hands-On Needlework at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Allegheny

Needlework craft activities are available for free to the public from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Learn how to knit, crochet or embroider. Use the sewing machine to mend a piece of clothing. Call Lydia to make an appointment: 412-237-1890. More information on the CLP website.
