Star Wars Day, Cinco de Mayo and the Pittsburgh Marathon all in the same weekend? Don’t worry the Northside has plenty of options to keep you entertained

Thursday, May 3

Premiere Screening of “Site Specific: A History of the Mattress Factory”

The Mattress Factory will be hosting a free premiere screening of David Bernabo’s new film, “Site Specific: A History of the Mattress Factory” at 6 p.m. The film uses the museum’s recent 40th-anniversary exhibit “New Installations: 40th Year” as a focal point to pivot around the museum’s rich history of showcasing abstract, boundary-pushing art and artists. Big Band Night at the Elks Lodge

The Jazz Conspiracy is back for another big band jazz night at the Allegheny Elks Lodge in Historic Deutschtown. Dance lessons with Mark Peters are at 7:15, the fun starts at 8 p.m. A $10 cover applies; for more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

PAART Animal Fundraiser at ACB

Allegheny City Brewing will be hosting a fundraising event for the Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue Team (PAART) from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. A special beer release will take place with proceeds benefiting PAART. Friday, May 4

May the Fourth Be With You at Wigle Whiskey & Barrelhouse

It’s Star Wars Day and Wigle Whiskey is celebrating with a Star Wars-themed cocktail menu along with grub from the Spork Pit food truck. The celebration runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., costumes are welcome. For more information, visit Wigle’s event page.

Soup’s On III at Modern Cafe

Who doesn’t love a little soup and some beer? Modern Cafe is bringing the third installment of their “Soup’s On” series, a 4-course soup menu paired with Bell’s Brewing. Maifest at the Teutonia Männerchor

The Bavarian spring celebration is back at the Teutonia Männerchor. The festivities kick off at 5 p.m. followed by the Opening Parade of Flags at 5:45 p.m. and live music from The Barons at 6 p.m. Maifest is open to the public and runs from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m on Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 5 and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 6. Spaceballs at Rangos Giant Cinema

It wouldn’t be Star Wars Day without a special screening of Mel Brooks’ Star Wars spoof. The Rangos Giant Cinema will be showing Spaceballs on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 only. To view a full listing of showtimes, visit the cinema’s website.

Monty Alexander Trio at MCG Jazz

Saturday, May 5

Vinyl Night at The Park House

DJs SoulfulFella, Smilin Joey B-Sides and Tyler Swift are back for Vinyl Night at The Park House. DJ SoulfulFella will be playing some Latin and Caribbean-inspired music in honor of Cinco de Mayo, but attendees are still welcomed to bring and spin their own vinyl records. Mini-Tonk Party at the Children’s Museum

Get ready for the Pittonkatonk in Oakland with a Mini-Tonk Party at the Children’s Museum. Guests can enjoy live music from Pittsburgh’s own Big Blitz Band, Toledo’s all-female drum band, B-Thunder and the Detroit Live Marching Band. Spring Market at the Drew Mathieson Center

The Drew Mathieson Center and Bidwell Training Center are hosting the 2018 Spring Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market helps promote horticultural and agricultural education with proceeds benefiting the Drew Mathieson and Bidwell Training Centers. Kentucky Derby Watch Party at Burn

The North Shore’s new cigar bar will be hosting a Kentucky Derby Watch Party at 12 p.m. Specialty food and drink menus will feature a variety of Derby Day treats including mint juleps and bourbon deviled eggs. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

Garden Prep Day in Brighton Heights

The Brighton Heights Citizens Federation will be hosting a Garden Prep Day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Volunteers will help plant and prep the flower beds in Legion Park and along Brighton Heights Blvd. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

 

Sunday, May 6

The Pittsburgh Marathon

The Pittsburgh Marathon kicks off at 7 a.m. Cheer on runners as they navigate through Historic Deutschtown, Allegheny Center and the North Shore for miles 3 through 6. To view, the course map click here. After the runners make their way through, visit Wigle Whiskey & Barrelhouse in Spring Garden for their 4th annual Pittsburgh Marathon After Party.

Anime Club and Sahaja Meditation at the Allegheny Carnegie Library

The Allegheny Library will be hosting an Anime Club from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The weekly Sahaja Meditation class will meet at 3:30 p.m. till 4:30 p.m.
