From beer releases on the North Shore and Tipsy History lessons in Spring Garden to techno yoga classes in Allegheny City Central, this weekend has it all.

Thursday, April 26

Open Mic Night at Scratch F&B

It’s the last Thursday of the month … which means Open Mic Night at Scratch F&B in Troy Hill hosted by Her Ladyship. The fun starts at 9 p.m. and goes until midnight. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

Birdie at New Hazlett Theater

The award-winning performance by Barcelona’s Agrupación Señor Serrano will be at the New Hazlett Theater at 8 p.m. “Birdie” is a multimedia performance that combines a number of various mediums highlighting the production’s theme: migration. North American Rock Garden Society at Allegheny Commons Park

The Northside is home to the largest public rock garden in the state. Located near the National Aviary’s East Entrance on Arch Street, the North American Rock Garden Society (NARGS) Allegheny Chapter hosts a volunteer clean-up from 10 a.m. to noon the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Techno Yoga at the Mattress Factory

Enjoy some high energy yoga at the Mattress Factory from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees can enjoy music from a Dutch DJ along with refreshments from Penn Brewery and a museum tour after yoga. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For more information, visit the museum’s event page.

North Shore Fog Release Party at Southern Tier

Southern Tier Brewing Co., will be releasing their new New England-style IPA, “North Shore Fog.” Attendees can meet Southern Tier’s brew team from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

 

Saturday, April 28

Independen Bookstore Day at Alphabet City & City Books

The City of Asylum Bookstore in Alphabet City and City Books in Allegheny West will each be hosting Indie Bookstore Day events.

City Books will be offering extended hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. plus visitors will have a chance to purchase a number of new books in stock including Madeline L’Engle’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” Doug Rice’s “Here Lies Memory,” and Patricia Bell-Scott’s “The Firebrand and the First Lady: Portrait of a Friendship–Pauli Murray, Eleanor Roosevelt, and the Struggle for Social Justice.” Plus, Gilligan’s Sorbet will be on site from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. For more information and a full listing of events, visit City Books’ event page.

City of Asylum Bookstore in Alphabet City will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with 50 percent discounts on selected merchandise plus a 3 p.m. book reading of “Wangari’s Tree of Peace” from Moma Tale Spin. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

Paint Fumes at Get Hip Record Store

Get Hip Record Store will be hosting a Paint Fumes concert with special guests The Black Six and Baby Brains. The concert starts at 7 p.m. with refreshments from Rock Bottom Brewery. For more information, visit Get Hip’s event page.

Anime Club at Woods Run Library

The Woods Run Library will be hosting a Teen Anime Club from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit the library’s event page.

Wags & Whiskey at Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse

Enjoy the warmer weather with your four-legged friends as Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse in Spring Garden hosts Wags & Whiskey at 2 p.m. Camp Bow Wow and Biggies Bullies will be on site in addition to a food truck (to be announced). For more information, visit Wigle’s event page.

Tipsy History at Threadbare Cider and Mead

Curious about the legend of Johnny Appleseed or the history of cider in Western PA? Then enjoy Threadbare Cider and Mead’s Tipsy History from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests will be able to learn about the legendary Appleseed and the history of frontier cider-making within the region. The event is co-hosted by the Heinz History Center and Wigle Whiskey. For more information, visit Threadbare’s event page.
