SCIENCE CENTER TO OFFER ADMISSION, PARKING, AND MOVIES FOR FREE

Duquesne Light Community Day at Carnegie Science Center on Sunday, March 25, features free general admission, free parking (subject to availability in Carnegie Science Center’s lots), and a free film in The Rangos Giant Cinema. Public transportation stops in Carnegie Science Center parking lot.

Carnegie Science Center has four floors of hands-on exhibits, plus Highmark SportsWorks®, The Rangos Giant Cinema, a Miniature Railroad and Village®, the USS Requin (SS 481) Cold War-era submarine, and Buhl Planetarium. All the exhibits are free that day, sponsored by Duquesne Light Company. In demonstration theaters, visitors can see live explosive reactions, discover the chemistry of cooking, and learn the basics of biology. Tours of the universe in Buhl Planetarium*, a domed theater, are designed for every age group.

The 45-minute movie Dream Big will show five times in Pittsburgh’s newest theater – The Rangos Giant Cinema. It tells heartwarming stories about amazing engineering projects, and encourages the audience to reach for their dreams. Seats are first-come, first-served, subject to availability.*

Highmark SportsWorks®, also included in free admission, offers sports-related interactive exhibits. Guests can traverse a climbing wall, challenge their speed with that of an Olympic sprinter, play a giant game of Operation, or determine the speed of their baseball swings, among other activities.

There are more than 200 hands-on exhibits in Carnegie Science Center for everyone from preschool age to adult. From water activities to robots there is something for everyone to enjoy. The Little Learner Clubhouse, powered by PNC Grow Up Great, just opened in March with engaging exhibits for early learners age 6 and under.

*Parking, Planetarium, theater shows, and movies are subject to availability. Take note that the food and gift shop are not included. USS Requin is sponsored by Beano’s.

This article is sponsored by the Carnegie Science Center. Carnegie Science Center delights, educates, and inspires through interactive experiences in science and technology. The Science Center is located on Pittsburgh’s North Shore along the banks of the Ohio River and is accessible to persons with disabilities.
