‘Amazing Amazon’ show comes to National Aviary

New indoor show features a variety of tropical birds and mammals

By: Neil Strebig

Starting March 7, the National Aviary will be debuting the all-new “Amazing Amazon” show presented by AAA Travel.

The show features the first-time appearances for a number of species including a Toco Toucan, Plus-crested Jay, Scarlet Ibis, Grey-winged Trumpeter and two mammals the Southern Three-banded Armadillo and Valentino, the Aviary’s Linnaeus’s Two-toed Sloth.

“The idea is to transport the audience to the Amazon,” said Cathy Schlott, curator of behavioral management and education.

According to Schlott, the show aims to help educate guests on rainforest preservation and the threats facing a rainforest’s ecosystem and the natural habitats of the featured animals.

The performance will be held at the Helen M. Schmidt FliteZone Theater with two daily showtimes at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 in addition to general admission.
