From Polar Plunges to jungle-themed fundraisers the Northside has an all-weather spread of fun this weekend.

Thursday, February 22

Cat Cafe at Threadbare

Cats and cider aka the cat’s pajamas. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Threadbare Cider and Mead in Spring Garden will be hosting their ‘Cat Cafe’ with a portion of all sales benefiting the Humane Animal Rescue. For more information visit Threadbare’s event page.

Open Mic at Scratch Food & Beverage

Open Mic Night is back at Scratch F&B. The Troy Hill restaurant will be hosting Open Mic Night’s the last Thursday of each month from 9 p.m. to midnight. For more information visit the event’s Facebook page.

Gypsy Stringz at Huszar

Northside’s favorite string quartet is back at Huszar from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. For more information visit the event’s Facebook page.

Ilgenfritz-Chase-Lee Trio at the Mattress Factory

Looking for a little ambient music in your life? The trio of double-bassist, James Ilgenfrtiz, drummer Brian Chase and Robbie Lee on flute and electronics will be producing jazz-inspired sounds at the Mattress Factory from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information about the event or to purchase tickets visit the event’s Facebook page.

Friday, February 23

Time Tested at Workingmen’s Beneficiary Union

Local classic rock band, Time Tested will be at the WBU and future home of Spring Hill Brewing from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Food and refreshments will be provided for additional information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

Welcome to the Jungle fundraiser at The National Aviary

The National Aviary will be hosting their 21-and-over ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ fundraiser at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by DJ Scottro with refreshments from Penn Brewery and Atria’s. Majority of the aviary’s exhibits will be open including armadillo and sloth encounters. For more information, visit the Aviary’s event page.

Elkhound at The Park House

Pennsylvania Dirt at Allegheny City Brewing

ACB will be hosting folk band Pennsylvania Dirt at 9 p.m. Tango food truck will also be on site. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.

Bear Dog Bicycles One-Year Anniversary

Bear Dog Bicycles in Allegheny West will be celebrating their one-year anniversary with sales and discount specials all weekend long. For more information visit the event’s Facebook page.

Yoga and Mimosas at Federal Galley

Inhale Yoga will be continuing their Yoga and Mimosas series at Federal Galley from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. For more information visit the event’s Facebook page.

Pittsburgh Polar Plunge

The annual Pittsburgh Polar Plunge is back! From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. near Heinz Field contestants (those brave, cold-blooded souls) will take the plunge. $50 to participate with proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Pennsylvania and free for spectators. Weather forecast and updates due to potential flooding will be posted on the event’s Facebook page (in addition to an e-mail to registered contestants).

Erin Adair-Hodges at City Books

In part of their 2018 spring event series, City Books will be hosting author Erin Adair-Hodges, who will discuss her first poetry collection, “Let’s All Die Happy.” The reading starts at 7 p.m. and a book signing will follow the event. For more information, visit City Books’ events page.

 

Sunday, February 25

Paint Night at Woods Run Library

Local artist Connie Dusak will host a Paint Night fundraiser at the Woods Run Library from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be provided for more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.
