Kick the winter blues with jazz at the Elks Lodge, multiple chances to meet Punxsutawney Phil and the return of Vinyl Night at The Park House.

Thursday, January 18

Trivia at Allegheny City Brewing

Aaron DeLeo returns to ACB for another round of trivia. The fun starts at 6 p.m. For more information visit the event’s FB page.

Jazz Conspiracy at the Elks Lodge

The Jazz Conspiracy Big Band is back at the Elks from 7:15 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The $10 cover gets you in. Marc Peters will lead swing dance lessons from 7:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. and during the second half of the night the Big Band will play tunes from the 20s, 30s and 40s. Hyde Whiskey Tasting and Irish Dinner at The Priory

The Priory will be hosting a Hyde Irish Whiskey Tasting from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is $75 ahead, will feature six selections including Hyde’s 10-year sherry cask President’s and their single malt, bourbon cask, Áras. For more information visit The Priory’s event page.

TMT Trio at Alphabet City

The avant-jazz trio will be playing a free show at City of Asylum’s Alphabet City from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For more information on the event and the musician’s bios visit Alphabet City’s event page.

 

Friday, January 19

21+ Night at Carnegie Science Center

The museum’s next After Dark event will feature the science behind Body Art. Guests will have a chance to explore the art and science of tattoos and body piercings. They’ll also have the chance to get a temporary tattoo (or permanent one courtesy of Torch and Dagger). For more information visit the Science Center’s event page.

 

Saturday, January 20

Vinyl Night at The Park House

Bring your favorite vinyl records to The Park House Saturday night. Play and spin your favorites or select a few from the DJ Soulfulfella’s collection. The records start spinning at 9:30 p.m., for more information, visit the event’s FB page.

Phil-a-palooza at Threadbare

Pennsylvania’s favorite groundhog will be on site at Threadbare Cider and Mead from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Get yourself a selfie with the famous woodchuck or listen to how the tradition of Groundhog Day began from the Groundhog Club of Punxsutawney. The family-friendly event is free to attend, for more information visit Threadbare’s event page.

Punxsutawney Phil at Penn Brewery

Missed your chance to see will be at Punxsutawney Phill at Threadbare? Don’t worry, guests will have a second chance to catch him at Penn Brewery from 5 p.m. till 9 p.m. Penn Brewery’s Punxsutawney Philsner will also be on draft in the brewery’s taproom. Brunch at the Northside Food Pantry

The sixth annual Food Pantry Brunch Challenge will be held at the New Hazlett Theater from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 10 local chefs will work to make a brunch item from only food and ingredients typically found in a food pantry. Gavas Beats will be providing music on site and all proceeds from the event benefit the Northside Community Food Bank. For more information or to purchase tickets visit the event’s page.

Allegheny and Woods Run Library events

The Allegheny Library will be holding a Hands-on Needlework workshop from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. With the help of library staff guests will have a chance to learn how to improve knitting, crocheting and/or sewing skills. From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. the Woods Run Library will be hosting a Teen Anime Club, where participants can share and discuss their favorite anime, manga or tidbits on Japanese culture.

 

Sunday, January 21

Bingo at the Sarah Heinz House

The Sarah Heinz House will be hosting Purse Bingo from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. $20 to play 12 games, with all proceeds benefit the Keystone Club as they try to reach their goal of attending this year’s National Keystone Conference. For more information visit the event’s FB page.
