Plenty of holiday cheer this weekend with community celebrations in Observatory Hill, Brighton Heights, Troy Hill and Spring Hill.

Thursday, November 30

St. Nik Bock Reserve Party at Penn Brewery

Penn Brewery will be tapping the first keg of their seasonal St. Nik Bock at 6 p.m. Stop by the Troy Hill staple to celebrate the holiday seasons and the new seasonal beer lineup.

Trivia at Allegheny City Brewing

Aaron DeLeo will be hosting Trivia Night at Allegheny City Brewing 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. FANtastic food truck will be on site and a new IPA will be tapped as well. For more information visit the event’s FB page.

Shine A Light 2017

Allegheny Health Network will be hosting its second annual Shine A Light campaign for lung cancer awareness. Doctors and cancer survivors will share their stories and discuss new advances in treatments. Food and refreshments will be provided. The event will be held in the Allegheny General Hospital lobby from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information visit the event’s FB page.

 

Friday, December 1

Observatory Hill “Light Up Night”

Observatory Hill Inc. will be hosting their first annual holiday celebration, “Light Up Night” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will take place on the Perrsyville Avenue Business District. For more details visit the event’s FB page.

The Ugly Beats & the Nox Boys at Get Hip

Get Hip Records will be hosting a live performance from The Ugly Beats and Get Hip’s own Nox Boys. The show is free and the record store will be open during the show. The fuzz box kicks at 7 p.m., for more information visit Get Hip’s event page.

The Polar Express at the Rangos Giant Cinema

The Carnegie Science Center’s new Rangos Giant Cinema will be featuring 13 special showings of The Polar Express this month. The first showing will be at 3:45 p.m. For more information on showtimes and advance ticket sales visit the theater’s movie listing page.

“Bright the Night” Celebration in Brighton Heights

The Brighton Heights Citizen Federation will be hosting the fourth annual “Bright the Night” holiday celebration from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will take place on the California Avenue Business District, for more information visit the event’s FB page.

Vinyl Record Night at the Park House

The Park House will be hosting Vinyl Record Night from 9:30 p.m. till close. Guests can bring their own records to play or choose from a library of records courtesy of DJs Smilin’ Joe, Tyler Swift and SoulfulFella. For more information visit the event’s FB page.

North Shore Ugly Sweater Bar Crawl

Pittsburgh Pub Crawl’s is hosting an Ugly Sweater Bar Crawl on the North Shore. Festivities start at Tequila Cowboy at 7 pm. The crawl will include stops at McFadden’s, The Foundry, SoHo and Local. For more information visit the event’s FB page.

Handmade Arcade

The Handmade Arcade will feature a number of Northside artists and craftsman including Corner Alchemy Apothecary , Vinyl Resting Place, Rustbetl Workshop and Chillibibbi. The event will also feature presentations from Sarah Heinz House and Artist Image Resource. The convention runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center downtown. Mexican War Streets 5K Tour and Brews

Take a guided tour through the three different Northside neighborhoods and finish with a complimentary flight of beer courtesy of Allegheny City Brewing. Hosted by Pittsburgh Running Tours, the walk/run will start in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood before venturing through Allegheny Commons Park and Deutschtown. Wigle Spectacular Christmas Tree Sale

Looking for a Christmas tree? Wigle Whiskey will be holding their annual Spectacular Christmas Tree Sale at the Wigle Barrelhouse in Spring Garden from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Cocktails will feature Wigle’s own St. Nick Whiskey and all proceeds from the event will be donated towards 412 Food Rescue and Biggies Bullies. For more information visit Wigle’s event page.

Troy Hill Christmas Tree Lighting

Troy Hill Citizens Inc. will be holding a Christmas tree lighting celebration at 5 p.m. at the Lowrie/Ley Street Monument. Guests are encouraged to bring their own ornaments to decorate the tree with. For more information visit the event’s FB page.

Spring Hill Christmas Tree Lighting

Spring Hill Civic League will be hosting their community Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m. in the Rockledge Street parking lot. Santa will be on site and light refreshments will be provided. For more information visit the event’s FB page.

Boozy Brunch Book Fair at Threadbare Cider and Mead

Threadbare will be hosting a brunch and book fair featuring author talks and book signings from four food and beverage authors including Rico Gagliano, Noah Rothbaum, Kara Newman and Threadbare’s own Mark Meyer and Meredith Meyer Grelli. Each book talk will be paired with its own unique cocktail and discussions will be moderated by the Wall Street Journal’s Beth Kracklauer and Anne Trubek of Belt Magazine. Mexican War Streets Society Holiday Party

The Mexican War Streets Society will be hosting their annual community holiday party from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Guests are encouraged to bring side dishes and all non-perishable food leftover from the event will be donated to the Northside Food Pantry.
