Salvation Army relocating to better serve Northern communities

Lieutenants Kenneth and Minnie Cleveland, Commanding Officers at The Salvation Army’s Northside Worship and Service Center, currently located on North Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Northside, are looking forward to new opportunities to serve, especially youth, as they prepare to relocate to a temporary location in Bellevue.

“The Salvation Army has been serving the Northside Community and beyond for over 123 years and we are excited to continue assisting those in need in our temporary facility in the North Boroughs community until a permanent home is found,” said Lt. Kenneth Cleveland. “We want folks to come and celebrate with us at the final worship service at the W. North Avenue location on Sunday, June 18th at 11:00 a.m., not to say good-bye; but to praise God for the future expansion of programs and services for His people. Light refreshments will be provided after the service, and we’re looking forward to sharing the good news with everyone,” added Lt. Minnie Cleveland.

Effective June 19, 2017, all social service needs for the Northside community as well as Avalon, Bellevue, Ben Avon, Ben Avon Heights, Emsworth, Kilbuck Township and Ohio Township will be fulfilled at the new temporary North Boroughs Salvation Army Worship and Service Center located at 658 Lincoln Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15202. Lts. Cleveland are excited for this new venture and look forward to community collaborations within the North Boroughs area.

The Salvation Army is currently seeking a permanent home in the North Boroughs and several options are under consideration.

Celebrating over 150 years of global service as both a church and a social service organization, The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865. Today, it provides critical services in 129 countries worldwide. The 28-county Western Pennsylvania Division serves thousands of needy families through a wide variety of support services.
