Joe Brown, the organizer for the flag placing, said it is his goal to make Highwood Cemetery look similar to Arlington Cemetery in Virginia on Memorial Day.

On Friday, May 26,  volunteers gathered in Highwood Cemetery to place flags on the grave sites of fallen soldiers.

On Monday, May 29, the 69th Annual Memorial Day Program and Salute will be held in honor of the Fallen Heroes in the 27th Ward of Pittsburgh.  The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Legion Park in Brighton Heights.

The program is sponsored by the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation, American Legion Post #681, the City of Pittsburgh, and supported by multiple community groups and organizations as well as local businesses and dedicated individuals.

Please bring your own chair for the event. There will also be a picnic following the service to all who attend.

Those with questions can contact Joe Brown at [email protected]
