Dancers from Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Dance Theatre of Harlem visited the Carnegie Library-Allegheny, 1230 Federal St., for a “Meet the Dancers” event last night at 6 p.m.

With over 70 children and parents in attendance, two dancers from DTH and one from PBT hosted the free event with DTH Artistic Director Virginia Johnson.

Children were able to try basic ballet steps, learn the history of PBT and DTH, and interact with the dancers as well as learn about ballet shoes and the dancers outfits. Johnson said DTH is in Pittsburgh collaborating with PBT on a two-week residency that includes nine performances at the August Wilson Center and more than 25 programs in dance studios, communities centers and libraries throughout the city until March 26.

Johnson said the two-week residency came about after her old friend Terrance S. Orr, the artistic director for PBT, called and invited DTH for special performances at the August Wilson Center.

On Thursday, March 23 at 7 p.m. there will be five performances: “Brahms Variations” performed by DTH, “Ave Maria” performed by PBT, “Black Swan Pas de Deux” performed by PBT and DTH, “Dialogues” performed by DTH, and “StrayLifeLushHorn” performed by PBT. This program will also be held on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26 at 2 p.m.

There are also performances on Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 at 8 p.m. that include: “New Bach” performed by DTH, “Ave Maria” by PBT, “Black Swan Pas de Deux” performed by PBT and DTH, “StrayLifeLushHorn” performed by PBT, and “Return” performed by DTH.
