Pirates Charities opened registration for Action Math Basebell

Pirates Charities has offered the Action Math Baseball (formerly Fantasy Baseball Math) program to organizations in the region since 2011. This integrated math curriculum is used to teach math to students in grades 4-8, and is also adaptable for older students. It is used in both inschool and after-school settings.

Action Math Baseball is aligned with Pennsylvania State Exams in the areas of mathematics, reading and physical education, and promotes higher order science, technology, engineering and math skills (STEM), in preparation for math-based careers.

Students learn mathematics skills through baseball statistics in a way that is fun and engaging, and use statistics from current Pirates Players, as well as player cards they create, to compete against one another in simulated baseball games.

With the support of Pirates General Manager Neal Huntington and his wife Becca, Pirates Charities is pleased to offer the opportunity to apply for this program for the 2017 season to eligible nonprofit organizations and schools in the Pittsburgh region.

Applications are now available for the 2017 Action Math Baseball program, a curriculum-based program suitable for in-school and after-school programs. The program begins with a teacher training in January and concludes with the Action Math Baseball “World Series” at PNC Park in May.
