2016 Manchester House & Garden Tour

By Donnie Mangino

On Sunday, August 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Manchester Historic Society will hold its annual House and Garden Tour.

The tour boasts to bring its guests through some of the most unique and timeless homes of Pittsburgh, and to provide a fun, educative experience of modern interpretations of these 19th and early 20th century homes.

This year the tour includes a unique focus on the Colonel James Anderson house, where Andrew Carnegie imagined the idea for his free library system. Discover the individual stories behind each house, and learn more about the Society’s plans to continue preservation projects and future discovery. As a mission to document and preserve the rich history behind its many homes, Manchester Historical Society invites Pittsburghers to this day of celebrating one of the city’s most diverse and affluent neighborhoods, according to the organizations website.

After the tour, attend Manchester Marketplace to grab a bite to eat, enjoy crafts created by Manchester residents, or listen to music by local jazz artist Mark Strickland. Manchester Historic Society promises an exciting day for all during this tour and a breathtaking, personal experience of the neighborhood’s unique history.

Tickets are $15 and sold on the day of the tour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Page Street between Fulton and Manhattan Streets. Tickets can also be purchased in advance for $12 at manchesterhistoricsocietypa.com or https://squareup.com/store/mhs-house-tour.
