Manchester garden to host Hope Grows program

By Justin Criado

A local non-profit, Hope Grows, is accepting applications for families of children with disabilities and volunteers for the new seasonal program “Take a Break in the Dirt,” which will be held at the Page Street Community Garden in Manchester, starting Sept. 15, for six weeks.

The gardening program engages children with disabilities, ages 5-17, in gardening and nature related activities while their family or caregiver takes a well-earned break.

The program is divided into two age groups: Group 1, ages 5-12, gathering on Tuesday afternoons and Group 2, ages 13-17, gathering on Thursday afternoons for three hours.

Families can find more information about the guidelines and application form by visiting the website, emailing info@hopegrows.net, or calling 412-369-4673. Pre-registration and application process is required.

Volunteers can find more information on how to get involved by visiting the website Volunteers are required to go through an interview process, background clearances, and training paid for by the project. Training is slated for Sept. 10.
