Searching for a unique Mother’s Day or Father’s Day card with a handmade touch? Skip the stores and malls, and head to SLB Radio Productions to create a one-of-a-kind card that features your own voice, thoughts and artwork!

Back by popular demand for the 2015 Mother’s Day and Father’s Day spring holiday season, SLB will open its award-winning broadcast studios, located in the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in Allegheny Center, to invite children and youth to make personalized Audio CD Cards featuring individual greetings and handcrafted decorations.

Let your own voice and thoughts become the unique.

During the unique hands-on program, children and youth can record a personal message, poem, song, or story for their mother, father, grandparent or special caregiver. SLB staff will conduct welcoming interviews about the person the card is intended for, and will record greetings and messages live onto an audio CD in its broadcast studios.

After the recording session, the professional-quality cards will be edited on site. The audio CD will be affixed to a special card, which children and youth will decorate and personalize using a variety of art materials provided by SLB. Ready for delivery in just a short time, audio cards can be brought home that very day as handmade Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts that can be cherished for a lifetime.

“When we constructed our broadcast studios in the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, a major goal was to make sure that they would be used not only by us, but also by a diverse population of children and families throughout the region,”  Larry Berger, executive director and founder of SLB Radio Productions, Inc., said. “We are delighted that so many people have made our studios a focal point of their Mother’s Day and Father’s Day tradition.”

Creation of personalized audio cards is available for recording in May and June each year at SLB. No appointment is necessary. Purchase of a CD Creation Card Kit at SLB is required prior to recording. The cost is $12, which includes a CD, card kit, decorating supplies, studio time and editing. All proceeds benefit SLB’s programs for children, youth and families. SLB’s studios are located in the lower level of the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.

In 2014, SLB’s Audio Card program reached a record attendance, with more than 600 children and families participating. Entering its 10th year at SLB Radio, the engaging program has become an annual tradition for many local and visiting families, and the resulting cards have become lifetime keepsakes for the people who receive them.

The annual program underscores SLB’s mission to use radio and audio to encourage, amplify, share and archive the ideas, stories, thoughts, and feelings of children, youth and families, while encouraging self-expression and creative thinking in young people around the region.
