Fundraiser to restore Historic Deutschtown home set for Saturday

By Justin Criado

Resident Northsiders Sarah and Domenick Sims-Erwin are in the long, unpredictable process of restoring a historic home on 406 Foreland St. in Historic Deutschtown.

Now, over a year in to the new project, contractor troubles have put them behind schedule, not to mention drained funds so in an effort to create awareness and community support, they’re holding a fundraiser at the property this Saturday, May 9 from 1-6 p.m.

Other than getting a chance to check out the property and its historic aesthetics,  supporters will also be treated to live music and light refreshments.

Below Sarah explains the event:

Step inside one of the North Side’s oldest homes and help with the renovation of this place that’s “special to the whole city.”

We’re opening our doors so you can tour the duplex before things change too much inside. See the 30-foot long hand-hewn beams, the mortise and tenon construction, and the mysterious exterior siding of the neighboring house; it might be older than ours!

Wear your play clothes since the coal dust is still settling, and plan to stay a while because ATS-Feral-Raised by Wolves and DJ Ping Ting will be performing live!

There will also be light refreshments and snacks.

Cookies provided by Priory Hospitality Group (Thanks Rebecca!) and a few beverages provided by Penn Brewery (Thanks Linda!) and Kasunick Distributing (Thanks Ray!).  But B.Y.O.B. is strongly suggested.

Live music starts at 2 p.m. with ATS-Feral-Raised by Wolves (Evan Knauer, Duane Jones, Chrissy Carnevali, and Melissa Knauer). Afterwards DJ Ping Ting will play real live 45 records!

For more information about the home and how to support the cause visit the fundraiser page.
