Long-time councilwoman and incumbent, Darlene Harris, 62, of Spring Hill, won the Pittsburgh City Council District 1 primary May 19 with just under 47 percent of the votes and 98 percent of precincts reporting.

“The people of the Northside pulled this out,” Harris said after securing her fourth term. “I’ve worked hard for my communities, and I think, in return, they put me back in office.”

Challengers Bobby Wilson, 32, of Spring Hill and Randy Zotter, 65, of Central Northside received 31 and 20 percent, respectively.

In the Pittsburgh Public School District 8 race, youngster Kevin L. Carter, 26, of Manchester won the chair that longtime board member Mark Brentley Sr. left vacant after not seeking re-election after 16 years with 40 percent of the votes.

Patricia Rodgers, 49, of Central Northside and Rosemary Moriarty, 64, of Central Northside both received about 30 percent, respectively.

Moriarty, however, cross-filed and ran unopposed, winning the Republican card. News of whether she will run against Carter in the November election was not immediately available.

Regina B. Holley ran unopposed for Pittsburgh Public School District 2, while Ricky V. Burgess won District 9 with nearly 45 percent of the votes.

Incumbent Robert P. Ravenstahl, Jr. won the magisterial district judge race in District 26 & 27 with just over 53 percent, while incumbent Derwin Rushing won District 40 with 41 percent of the votes.
