Pete Spynda aka Pandemic Pete is bringing his Weather Permitting concert series to Northside this Sunday, Jan. 25 when three bands play at the New Bohemian in East Deutschtown.

The series started last year in Shady Side when DJ and entertainer Spynda wanted to find a family-friendly event to take his young daughter to.

“Weather Permitting started as a family friendly outdoor concert series at the Shady Side Nursery because what I felt Pittsburgh was lacking were events that were held at an early time that I could take my daughter to that weren’t kiddie shows,” Spynda said.

Sunday’s event will be the first of three Northside shows. The others will be Feb. 8 and March 8. Bands The Pressure, The Working Poor and Charlie Hustle & the Grifters will begin playing at 3 p.m.

The event is free for kids and $10 for adults. Said to be “fun for all ages,” Rock Bottom beer will be served and there will also be food trucks, including Steer and Wheel, and Lomito Truck along with Leona’s ice cream sandwiches.

“We were really onto something because our response has been overwhelming,” Spynda said of the series so far. “Our crowd doubled in size from the first year to the second (in Shady Side). We added a regular farmers stand and market area this summer.”

“Next year we have more things in the works for the nursery, but in the meantime I think people are itching for something to do in the winter months. I really like the New Bohemian and think we could put together a few events until the weather breaks. So here we are.”
