Wigle Whiskey brings flavor to Spring Garden

The Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse and Whiskey Garden on 1055 Spring Garden Ave. received its proper signage Wednesday. The company’s second location opened this summer and have held regular educational tours and cocktail hours along with events for charity and live entertainment.
Adorned with vibrant colors and a one-of-a-kind sign, the Spring Garden location is a must see for any whiskey or cocktail enthusiast. The Northside Chronicle took a tour of the finished facility, and sampled some choice spirits (in moderation, of course), including the barrel-prepared Old Fashion.
The barrelhouse hosts Bantam Night every Thursday. Offering use of the facility to a local non-profit, Wigle donates 12 percent of its total sales from the night to the organization.

The Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse and Whiskey Garden in Spring Garden was officially given its identity Wednesday, Aug. 20 with a new paint job and the installation of a new sign. The barrelhouse, which opened for tours this summer, is Wigle’s second Pittsburgh location. The distillery is located on 2401 Smallman St.
The warehouse holds hundreds of whiskey-soaked barrels, which contain the makings of the company’s 15 different whiskey products. Wigle Whiskey prides itself on making whiskey the right way; the Pittsburgh way.
Opened in 2012, Wigle Whiskey has already produced award-winning products. The distillery is just one of a handful in the nation that produces every product from scratch. Wigle uses organic, local ingredients.
Guests can sit amongst the whiskey they’re drinking at Wigle Whiskey’s Barrelhouse and Whiskey Garden in Spring Garden. The location, which opened this summer, is the company’s second and pays homage to Pittsburgh’s rich whiskey history, which includes the Whiskey Rebellion during the 1790s.

The Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse and Whiskey Garden bar allows guests to taste all of the distillery’s flavors, including barrel-prepared cocktails. The drinks are mixed and stored in a small holding barrel like you’d hope to find on a pirate ship. The result is delicious. (Inside scoop: The Old Fashion goes down smooth with little burn. Could be dangerous if you don’t practice moderation, but worth a sip).
Wigle Whiskey only uses locally grown products for its spirits, making it one of the only distilleries in America that does so. The fermenting process is very particular depending on what kind of whiskey is being made. The warehouse also has a temperature-controlled room that simulates Ireland’s consistently humid climate.
