250th Anniversary of Fort Pitt Block House

Join the 250th Anniversary of Pittsburgh’s Oldest Landmark, the Fort Pitt Block House from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 9 in Point State Park.

This event is held once every 50 years.

The Fort Pitt Block House is the only surviving structure of Fort Pitt; built in 1764 by British Army to defend against Native American Indian attacks.

The block House is a national Historic Landmark and the oldest Pre-Revolutionary War building remaining on its original site in Western Pennsylvania.

In the 1890s, Pittsburgh Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution/Fort Pitt Society saved the Block House from industrial destruction. DAR restored the Block House and opened it as a museum offering free admission to the public for more than a century.

The Fort Pitt Block House, which is older than the Declaration of Independence, is lone witness to 250 years of history and chance in Pittsburgh. If only it could speak.
