Family Center hosting BBQ in June

By Abbey Reighard

On Friday June 20th the Providence Connections Family Support Center, 3113 Brighton Rd., will host its 9th Annual Backyard Barbecue at 5:00 p.m. in PNC Park.

The barbecue will include drinks, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar at 5:30 p.m. The buffet dinner and program will begin at 6:30 p.m. and entertainment will follow.

Tickets for the event are to be sold for $90 a person. For an additional $10 per person, barbecue goers will be given a tour of PNC Park, which will begin before the barbecue at 4:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the door the day of the event, or call (412) 766-6730.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Family Support Center.

According to Dave Cassidy, a representative for Providence Connections, around 200 people attended last year’s barbecue and the event brought in over $100,000.

Providence Connections, founded in 1994 by the Sisters of Divine Providence, is a non-profit organization that seeks to “strengthen families and enrich lives,” according to the Providence Connections official website.

Cassidy said Providence Connections provides resources for families such as child-care for inner city children ages six weeks to 13 years and guidance from trained family development specialists.

“[Providence Connections] helps families build bright futures,” Cassidy said.
