Library offering free financial, homebuyer workshops

By Alyse Horn

The Woods Run Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, 1201 Woods Run Ave., is partnering with Brightwood Civic Group, WesBanco and NeighborWorks of Western Pennsylvania to bring residents a Money Smart Series of financial and homebuyer education workshops.

The Financial Education Workshop will take place on Tuesday, April 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 10 from 2 until 3:30 p.m. This course is meant to be a refresher on money management, where attendees will learn about banking, saving, credit and creating a budget that works for the individual. Light refreshments will be available.

A Teen Financial Education Workshop will be held on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on May 6, 13, 27 and June 3. This workshop is geared specifically towards teenagers to learn financials skills like goal setting, budgeting, saving versus spending, needs versus wants, and credit cards. For these sessions a light dinner will be provided.

The Homebuyer Education Workshop will be on Saturday, June 28 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and will help attendees who are interested in buying a home take the right steps towards homeownership. Lunch will be provided at this workshop.

Due to limited space, a registration is required for the Financial Education Workshop and the Homebuyer Education Workshop. To register, call 412-761-3730 or email [email protected]

Branch Manager at Woods Run Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Ellen Paul said these workshops were made possible by a grant received from WesBanco for $2,500.

Correction: Previously this article reported that the first Financial Education Workshop would be held on Tuesday, April 11. The correct date is Tuesday, April 22.
