Delta Xtreme Bingo to benefit Northside Common Ministries

By Alyse Horn

Once a month, the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh holds an Xtreme BINGO event where part of the proceeds are given to a nonprofit.

This month, Delta will be sharing the profits with Northside Community Food Pantry and Pleasant Valley Shelter.

Doors open at 6 p.m. on February 8 and the games begin at 7:15 p.m. The event will take place at the Pittsburgh Opera Theater, 2425 Liberty Ave.

Tickets bought in advance are $20, and $30 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at www.deltafoundation.us/tickets.

Chris Bryan, director of marketing and development at Delta, said anywhere from 150 to 200 people usually show up for bingo, and there is a full cash bar and food available for attendees to munch on.

Director of NCM Jay Poliziani said he has worked with Delta once before and is excited to partner with the organization again, especially being Northside neighbors.

“We want the homeless members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community to know that we are welcoming to all homeless men at Pleasant Valley Shelter, and we want our LGBT neighbors in need of food to know that they too are welcome in our food pantry,” Poliziani said.

Poliziani said NCM feels strongly about getting the word out to the LGBT community that there are safe and welcoming places for them to stay.

“Especially for the hundreds of teenagers who age out of foster care each year and the LGBT teens who get forced from their homes when they come out to their families,” Poliziani said.

Bryan said Delta is equally excited to work with NCM.

“They’re a great partner and we’re looking forward to being great neighbors on the Northside when we get moved in,” Bryan said.

Delta purchased an empty storefront at 911 Galveston Ave. this summer and is in the process of demolition and renovation.

The Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh is the leading Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) organization in Western Pennsylvania. Its mission is to be a vigilant catalyst for change that produces increased opportunities and a high quality of life for the LGBT community.
