State grant will aid development of city brownfield site

State Rep. Adam Ravenstahl announced that the North Side Industrial Development Co. has received a $36,060 state grant to assess a brownfield site in Pittsburgh.

The 2.4-acre site is the former North Side Packing site at Washington’s Landing. It was used for animal rendering and, later, was a fertilizer plant.

“I’m pleased that the state is investing money that I hope will help bring this former industrial site back to life and create jobs for our area,” said Ravenstahl, D-Allegheny. “This project has my full support.”

NSIDC plans to use the grant to complete an environmental site assessment. NSIDC intends to remediate the site to develop a 50,000-square-foot light industrial/manufacturing space.

The grant was awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Industrial Sites Reuse Program.
