Friday, October 12
What: Mulch Madness, Northside
When: 9 a.m. to noon
Where: National Aviary
Mulch Madness begins again this October, now in its third year as Tree Pittsburgh’s tree care campaign. Mulch Madness works to educate the public about the importance of proper tree maintenance and engage communities in clean up events to promote change.
At Northside’s Mulch Madness event, volunteers will help to weed and mulch a portion of more than 1000 trees that Tree Pittsburgh will provide maintenance for, in seven neighborhoods across the city. They will provide staff, any tools, and refreshments. They ask that you wear long pants, close-toed shoes and to dress for the weather because the event will occur rain or shine.
Registration is required, which you can do here.
What: Northside Citiparks Farmers’ Market
When: 3:30 p.m.
Where: East Commons Park, East Ohio Street and Cedar Ave.
Check out Deutschtown’s very own Farmers’ Market, providing the neighborhood with fresh vegetables, fruits, meats, cheeses, baked goods and even flowers, all brought in from local farms nearby. They also have a wide variety of seasonal specialties. At least a dozen farmers attend this event each week, which is situated under a canopy of trees in East Commons Park, along with hundreds of patrons.
