A nonprofit reading organization is currently seeking volunteers to read with students at Pittsburgh King elementary school on the Northside. Now that the school year is in full swing, there are many students waiting to be paired with a special Reading Buddy to explore the world of books together.
Reading Is FUNdamental Pittsburgh is the Pittsburgh affiliate of Everybody Wins! USA, which is a national literacy and mentoring organization that strives to build literacy skills and a love of reading among elementary school students. This lunchtime literacy and mentoring program pairs elementary school students with volunteers from local companies and other community organizations to share conversation and good books for one hour a week. By bringing volunteer reading mentors into the schools for weekly one-on-one reading experiences, Everybody Wins! increases a child’s opportunity for success, both academically and in life.
Volunteers will read on Tuesdays or Thursdays in an 11:45-1:10 p.m. time slot.
